Insurance, Flagging & Ownership Transfer

Most standard yacht insurance policies require you to notify your insurer before commissioning a delivery passage. Cover typically continues, but conditions or excess may change for the transit period. It is always the owner's responsibility to confirm their policy terms. Yacht.Delivery can provide the documentation insurers typically require: skipper credentials and qualifications, passage plan, crew details, and vessel information. We also have existing professional relationships with specialist marine insurers if you need a referral.

Every skipper deployed by Yacht.Delivery holds their own Captain's Professional Liability (CPL) insurance through specialist marine providers including Pantaenius, Schömaker, Yacht-Pool, and Sealogy. Cover is always matched to the size of the vessel, typically with £10 million of professional indemnity. We do not deploy uninsured crew.

A delivery often coincides with a change of ownership: post-purchase handovers, pre-sale repositioning, or estate transfers. We have professional relationships across the ownership transfer process and can guide owners through what's required, typical timelines, and the documentation needed by flag state authorities and insurers. We are not a legal service, but we know who to refer you to and can help coordinate the process around your delivery.

Flag state registration is frequently triggered by a delivery. A new owner may want a different flag, a change of port of registry, or compliance with a new flag state's requirements. We can advise on the main flag state options for private yachts, including the UK, Isle of Man, Cayman Islands, Malta, and others, what each typically requires, and refer you to the right professionals. If your delivery involves a re-flagging, we can help plan the passage around the administrative timeline.
