Atlantic Crossings Across Our Captain Pool
Professional Paid Crew
Transatlantic specialists
Yacht.Delivery has managed more than 50 transatlantic yacht deliveries. Our dedicated ocean-captain pool includes eight transatlantic specialists who have completed more than 200 Atlantic crossings collectively.
No unpaid mile-builders. No inexperienced adventurers looking for their first crossing. Every person aboard is selected, contracted and paid to reposition your yacht professionally.
Professional planning is what keeps an ocean passage predictable. A prepared yacht with a competent crew reduces avoidable wear, keeps costs under control because problems are found before departure rather than mid-ocean, and departs inside a realistic seasonal and weather window instead of on a fixed date. An Atlantic crossing under her own keel will always put hours and sea miles on a yacht, and our job is to make sure nothing beyond that is added carelessly.
Professional repositioning. Nothing else.
What every transatlantic delivery includes
Specialist Ocean Captain and Paid Crew
A transatlantic specialist in command with paid professional crew alongside. Crew numbers and qualifications are matched to the vessel, its flag, its insurer and the route.
Vessel Readiness and Passage Preparation
Systems, rig, steering, ground tackle and safety equipment reviewed against the demands of an ocean passage before departure, with issues raised early rather than at sea.
Professional Weather Routing
GRIB data and routing tools used to plan and adjust the track, and to choose a realistic departure window instead of sailing to a fixed date.
Fuel, Water, Provisions and Spares
Range and consumption calculated for the full passage with reserves, water planning or watermaker spares, provisioning for the crew and the spares an ocean leg needs.
Garmin inReach and HELM Tracking
Satellite tracking with two-way messaging throughout, feeding live positions and passage updates into HELM so you can follow the yacht from departure to landfall.
24/7 Shore Support and Documented Handover
Shore-side support around the clock for the length of the passage, running expenses visible as they are incurred, and a documented handover on arrival.
Professional delivery, not a berth-finding exercise
Crossings are often crewed by people paying for, or working for, the miles. That is a legitimate way to gain ocean experience, but it is not a delivery service and it does not leave an owner with anyone accountable.
Crossing crewed for miles
- Crew joining to build their own experience
- Availability decides who sails, not the vessel's needs
- Owner carries the coordination and the follow-up
- Records and expenses reconstructed after arrival
Yacht.Delivery transatlantic
- Specialist ocean captain and paid professional crew
- Crew vetted and contracted, matched to vessel, flag, insurer and route
- Shore-managed passage with 24/7 support behind the crew
- Live tracking, running expenses and a documented handover

How much does transatlantic yacht delivery cost?+
There is no single fixed price for a transatlantic yacht delivery. The cost is built from the vessel, the route, the crew number and qualifications the vessel and route require, the preparation the yacht needs before an ocean passage, and the running expenses of the crossing itself such as fuel, provisions, berthing, clearances and crew travel. We quote each crossing individually with the service fee separated from estimated running costs, and our pricing approach is set out on our pricing page.
Can you deliver from Europe or the Canary Islands to the Caribbean?+
Yes. Europe and the Canary Islands to the Caribbean is our primary transatlantic route. We deliver from the Mediterranean, Gibraltar, Portugal and northern Europe, either directly or by way of a positioning leg to Las Palmas or Tenerife, and then across the trade wind corridor to Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, St Martin or another Caribbean landfall. We also handle eastbound repositioning from the Caribbean by way of the Azores back to Europe.
Do you use mile-builders on Atlantic crossings?+
No. Every person aboard a Yacht.Delivery Atlantic crossing is selected, contracted and paid. We do not fill ocean crews with unpaid mile-builders or people looking for their first crossing. Our transatlantic captain pool consists of eight specialists, and crew are matched to the vessel, its flag, its insurer and the route.
How can an owner follow the yacht during the crossing?+
Every ocean passage carries Garmin inReach satellite tracking with two-way messaging, and positions feed into HELM so you can follow the yacht live from departure to landfall. You also receive passage updates, running expenses as they are incurred and a documented handover on arrival.
What is the best time for a transatlantic crossing?+
Westbound crossings are usually planned for the period after the Caribbean hurricane season, broadly late November to January, once the trade winds are established. Eastbound returns are typically planned from around April to June, routing by way of the Azores. We plan around realistic seasonal windows rather than forcing a departure date.
How long does a transatlantic passage take?+
It depends on the route, the vessel, the weather and how well the yacht is prepared. A westbound crossing from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean commonly runs in the region of two to three weeks for a sailing yacht, and the eastbound return by way of the Azores usually takes longer because of the prevailing conditions. We give a realistic estimate for your specific vessel and route rather than a fixed figure.
What crew do you assign for ocean crossings?+
Ocean passages are crewed by a specialist transatlantic captain with paid professional crew, normally at least two additional crew so watches can be kept continuously for the length of the passage. Crew numbers, roles and qualifications are matched to the vessel, its flag state and safe manning requirements, its insurer and the route rather than to a single fixed standard.
