Croatian operating considerations
Bora and Jugo
The Bora is a cold offshore northeasterly that arrives fast and blows hard through the coastal gaps, strongest in the Kvarner and Velebit channels. The Jugo is a southeasterly that builds sea over a longer fetch. Both change the sheltered-coast picture completely.
Island navigation
Passages are pilotage heavy: narrow channels, ferry traffic and frequent course changes. It is coastal work that rewards local chart discipline rather than a single offshore track.
Season
May to October is the working window, with the heaviest traffic and berth pressure in July and August. Shoulder months are generally the easier delivery windows.
